Raimondo Directs Flags to Fly at Half-Staff to Honor Victims of Virginia Beach Shooting

Governor Gina Raimondo has directed all Rhode Island flags to fly at half-staff in honor of the victims of the Virginia Beach shooting the took place on Friday.

"My heart breaks for the victims of this horrific act of violence. Andy and I are sending our prayers to the families of the victims, that they might find comfort in this time of unimaginable grief. I am also praying that our elected officials in Congress finally find the courage to take action against gun violence and prevent tragedies like the one that occurred yesterday,” said Raimondo.

The flags will fly at half-staff until sunset on June 4, 2019.

Virginia Beach Shooting

As GoLocalProv reported, at least 12 are dead in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A disgruntled employee indiscriminately opened fire in a municipal building on Friday, killing 12 and injuring six others.

The shooter was killed by police after a gunfight.

Mayor Bobby Dyer Mayor Bobby Dyer Police Chief James Cervera said the shooter was a public utilities worker. It is the deadliest mass shooting in America since November.
