Prince at Mohegan Sun
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Prince is spending the weekend nearby, playing three shows starting tonight at Mohegan Sun. The Grammy winning artist is constantly re-inventing himself, and these appearances are not part of an official tour, so we don’t really know what to expect. It should be an interesting weekend. Hope you got some extra dough for the holidays - tickets are still available starting at $142 – shows are tonight, tomorrow and Sunday at 8PM. Click here for further details.
Jeff Pitchell and Charles Neville
Closer to home, Chan’s has a great show tonight featuring acclaimed guitarist Jeff Pitchell along with Grammy winning sax player Charles Neville of The Neville Brothers. They’re combining talents on a new album “Mardi Gras, a Taste of New Orleans and the Blues.” Need we say more? Show is at 8PM, tickets are $25.

Local 121, the popular downtown eatery, has put together a nice series of Sunday night concerts in the Taproom. This Sunday is no exception as they welcome The ‘Mericans. The band is scheduling an official release event next month for their new recording, A Tribute to Providence, an album made up of 20 cover songs from 20 different RI bands. Click here for a free download. Dan Dodd and Arc Iris open the evening, beginning around 10PM.
Rockabilly Royalty - Wanda Jackson
By far the coolest woman making music in Providence this week is the 76 year old “Queen of Rock” Wanda Jackson. She’s at the Columbus Theatre Monday night for a rare area gig. Elvis’ former BFF has more recently been collaborating with the likes of Jack White and Justin Townes Earle. On Monday December 30, she’ll be accompanied by Philly rockers Toy Soldiers with local boys The Silks opening. Show is at 7PM - Tickets are $22, and $25 day of show. A Honky-Tonk New Year
For New Year’s Eve, our pick goes to a couple of Americana/Roots bands who are home for the holidays. Joe Fletcher and the Wrong Reasons will headline Tuesday at The Met. Openers include J.P. Harris and Tough Choices along with Smith and Weeden. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. And “America’s original roadhouse,” Cady’s Tavern (since 1810!), welcomes Sarah and the Tall Boys. Both bands are led by RI natives who have recently relocated to Nashville. We expect great things from them and all area artists in 2014. Happy New Year!

While the teachers might recall his aggressiveness and unwillingness to settle, the kids recall his rhyming insults and rhythmic storytelling.
From the court to the mic
Despite his gift for freestyling, Ryan dedicated his adolescent years strictly to basketball. After excelling at a New England Prep School Ryan decided to go to Florida Atlantic University to continue his career.
Homecoming
After sacrificing his basketball career at FAU in order to pursue his rap dreams, Ryan came home to Providence and refocused his entire life. Since, Ryan has been going back and forth between New York and Providence trying to get his name on the scene.
A Record Deal
After a show with Pusha T, SweenS signed a deal with Federal Hill Records, an up and coming Label that SweenS hopes to help expand. SweenS has worked with artists like, Fat Joe, Pusha T, Dan the Man, among others.
Rhode Island Born, Rhode Island Bred
Combined with his honesty and unforgiving portrayal of his privileged suburban Providence upbringing, SweenS is destined to put his home city on the map.
