MUSIC: Boo City Goes Steady At The Parlour

2013 has been a wild and amazing year, especially for Providence faves Boo City. They shared the stage with the legendary B.B. King in Newport a few months ago and they consistently put on a spectacular show. They headlined an extravaganza with New York's Lo Primo this past Saturday and it was guaranteed to be a good time. When it comes to an establishment run by music scene vets Aaron Jaehnig and Gregory Rourke, you can always know that you'll have an enjoyable experience at The Parlour. This past Saturday, it was no different with great music exuding awesome vibes.

Samba and gypsy with a tinge of R&B, Lo Primo provided a succulent array of styles that set the mood just right. Their vocalist amazed me with her velvety soulful voice; I just wanted to hear more and more. They have an extremely talented violinist who was amazing, and their guitarist had these Carlos Santana-esque riffs that brought a huge Latin influence. I loved Lo Primo, and I'm not that good with my Italian but I pretty much know that it means they're the best. With Boo City playing next, that's quite a thing to say, but these guys made the room come alive.

What more can I say about Boo City? They're one of the best acts to the see in Providence, they bring a party, and its always one hell of a time. They came up to finish things off and I knew it was going to be fantastic. A nearly packed room shuffled as close the stage as they could to boogie to a groovy performance that included "You Ain't Ready", "Long Gone', "Go And Tell Yo Mama", "Closer" and "You're No Good". It's always enjoyable to bask in the rhythms when Boo City plays live and if you haven't gotten the chance to see them for yourself, then what's stopping you? To go and see an act that will quickly make you into a #1 fan, Boo City will be playing up the street from The Parlour at The Met in Pawtucket on November 21st with Ravi Shavi and Deer Tick's Ian O'Neil for what should be a local show you just can't miss.
