Mother Falcon

Tonight, Mother Falcon, a true gaggle of a band, will be at The Columbus Theatre. The Austin, TX collective evolved from a group of high school cellists looking to rock out. The result is a genre blending mélange – pop, rock, hip-hop, and jazz layered over swirling orchestral strings. They return to the Columbus with a good deal of critical praise after breaking out at SXSW in 2013. Tickets are only $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Northampton, MA based And the Kids open at 9PM.

Marshall Crenshaw

Next Thursday January 23, the Narrows Center has guitar rocker Marshall Crenshaw along with The Bottle Rockets. Crenshaw’s upbeat brand of rock and roll was a breath of fresh air in the 80s when the New Wave synthesizer sound ruled the radio airwaves. He continues to produce great music, especially when backed up by alt-country originators The Bottle Rockets. Show starts at 8PM, tickets are $25 in advance, $28 at the door. Check back next week for a review of the show.

Beethoven’s 2nd Symphony

Finally this weekend, head to The Vets Saturday night where the venerable Rhode Island Philharmonic presents Beethoven’s Second Symphony. The program also features Painist Jean-Philippe Collard debuting Ravel’s “Piano Concerto For The Left Hand.” The orchestra also performs Hindemith’s “Mathis der Maler.” The concert begins at 8PM - Tickets start at only $11.
