Eighteenth Century Tall Ship to Dock at Fort Adams in Newport

The 212’ vessel is an authentic replica of the first L’Hermione
L’Hermione, a French frigate, will be docked at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on July 8th and July 9th.

Tall Ships America is organizing the event and is currently in Yorktown, Virginia to greet the 212-foot authentic replica vessel before she sails north towards New England. The event is being held to replicate the journey that Marquis de Lafayette made to General George Washington during the American Revolution to pledge full French support for America’s cause.

“Tall Ships in the modern world are so beneficial in that they have this great capacity to engage youth in experiential learning aboard a traditional sailing vessel, to place them in situations where they can build character day to day, and to bring history to life for the millions of people of all ages that attend our annual TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Series of maritime festivals,” Lori Aguiar, Director of Operations at Tall Ships America said.
