Newport Goes Daffy with Weeklong Daffodil Celebration
The festivities kicked off on Tuesday with a sold out cocktail reception with Governor Lincoln Chafee at The Chanler on Cliff Walk in which hosts thanked the many supporters of Daffodillion.

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLAST- On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 25,26 & 27, the first annual “Newport Daffodil Days Festival” will take place throughout town. Free, all family events at Bannister’s Wharf in downtown Newport will feature live music, a “Daffy Doggie Parade,” daffy food items and special sales. - On Saturday, April 26, Bike Newport will have a special Bike Tour of the Daffodils departing at 11am from Touro Park. More information on their Facebook page at Bike Newport. For more information, click here.
- Also on Saturday, April 26, The Annual Newport Storm Craft Beer Festival will be taking place at the Great Friends Meeting House. The hundreds of daffodils now in bloom will greet beer aficionados on the Meeting House lawn. For more information click here.
- On Sunday, April 27, The 2014 Neighborhoods of Newport House Tour will benefit St. Michael’s Country Day School and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. Many of the houses on tour will feature beautiful beds of hundreds of daffodils, including the gardens of Ronald Lee Fleming’s Bellevue House and Susan Ruff’s Hillside. - Also on Sunday, April 27th, the 2nd Annual Newport 10 Miler run benefiting the Fort Adams Trust will be held starting outside the east wall of historic Fort Adams. The course will prominently feature Newport’s scenic coastal views around the famed Ocean Drive and will pass many Bellevue Avenue mansions. The finish line will be truly unique, as participants will pass daffodils as they enter the Fort through the north gate and finish on the parade field. For more information, click here.

New England Family Fun Festival
Providence, RI - April 26-27, 2014
In April, the Rhode Island Convention Center will host The New England Family Fun Festival, which offers fun and educational activities for the entire family. The festivities will include rides, games, bounce houses, face painting, rock climbing, live performances by The Toe Jam Puppet Band, Vanessa Trien, Story Tellers Len Cabral, Carolyn Martino, Tammy Titus and Valerie Tutson, Marine Biology and Aquarium by Biomes, Arts & Workshops and the Providence Friar’s Official DJ, Finesse playing music during family competitions like Lego building and Simon Says. Festivities will take place from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.

118th Boston Marathon

The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon and one of the world’s best-known road racing events with over 20,000 participants. Amateur and professional runners flock to Boston from all over the world to compete on the hilly terrain. The race starts west of the city in Hopkinton and ends in Boston. Knights! Community Day Renaissance Faire

Later this month, the Worcester Art Museum will celebrate the opening of Knights!, a major arms and armor exhibition. The festivities include music; costumed performers; theater; storytelling; and art making workshops. Gaspee Days Celebration

In June of 1772 brave colonists from Rhode Island burned the British revenue schooner, HMS Gaspee, in what has become recognized as the first overt action leading to the American Revolutionary War. Since 1965, the village of Pawtuxet has commemorated this act with its annual Gaspee Days Celebration.
