Providence Art Club Making Shows “More Virtual and Accessible” During Coronavirus Crisis
Michael Rose, Providence Art Club Gallery Manager, appeared on GoLocal LIVE.Providence Art Club Gallery Manager Michael Rose appeared on GoLocal LIVE, where he spoke to how the historic Providence institution is innovating to provide resources to the public during the coronavirus pandemic.
“The Providence Art Club moved to its current location in 1885 on Thomas Street, for 135 years promoting art culture in the city of Providence on one of the most recognizable streetscapes in the city — four historic buildings in the shadow of the First Baptist Church,” said Rose.
Rose spoke to the three exhibitions the Providence Art Club has on view right now, and now the club is working to bring the art to the public during this time of social distancing.
“Before this all began, we had shows that we already ongoing, and we decided to make those shows virtual, and more accessible than we normally would,” said Rose.
“Once the club made the appropriate decision to close to the public for the time being, we did want to make sure these shows remained accessible, so we made video tours of all three of our current exhibitions, available on our website, as well as virtual inventories of everything that’s in the current show,” said Rose. “So individuals who are interested in purchasing work out of the current shows, we can still do that.”
Rose said that there were several sales last week.
“Most of the response we received has been really positive — most of the people who hadn’t gotten the chance to go to the shows were very grateful, because at least it gave them the experience of sort of walking through the exhibition,” said Rose.
