RISD's The Shape of Flight to Debut in Central Falls on May 22

The Shape of Flight, a partnered research project between RISD students and Cessna/Textron, will debut on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at 55 Conduit Street, Central Falls.

The Shape of Flight

RISD students explored modes of flight and how it’s designed and achieved. The goal of the project was to create theoretical scenarios meant to elevate the experience of commercial aviation.

The project began during the winter session of 2014 as a two-part phased investigation. The second studio occurred in the spring.

Students' projects serving as inspiraton

Aeronautical engineers and designers at Cessna will reference the students' projects as inspiration for future aircraft designs.

“In many ways this studio is an experimental design lab,” notes Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture Yugon Kim, who is teaching the both parts of the research effort, along with Senior Critic in Glass Chris Taylor MFA 02 GL. “Students are exploring the spatial and temporal experiences of flight and creating varied types of projects based on this research.”
