Baxter the Robot

Baxter the robot is from Brown University’s Humans to Robots Laboratory  and according to its creators at Rethink Robotics in Boston, “Baxter revolutionized the manufacturing world and has become ‘the face’ of the collaborative robotics category.

In 2012, Baxter became the “Word’s first two-arm collaborative robot.”

The Speaker Series

Baxter will join Dr. Stephanie Tellex Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Assistant Professor of Engineering and one of WIRED Magazine’s “Women Who Changed Science in 2015” in a day of assemblies and small student group sessions.

Tellex’s award-winning research at both MIT and a Brown University, specialty programs and designs Baxter to pickup unfamiliar objects and navigate unfamiliar environments.

Tellex told WIRED magazine that the target of her research is, “to construct robots that seamlessly use natural language to communicate with humans." In twenty years, every home will have a personal robot which can perform tasks like clearing the dinner table, doing laundry and preparing dinner."
