3 Arrested for Murder of Providence18-Year-Old on His Birthday in August

Providence Police detectives announced they arrested Jalen Santiago, Julien Santiago, and Jose Diaz of Pawtucket for the homicide of 18-year-old Darmani Balbuena that occurred on August 25, 2024, on Rhodes Street.

Balbuena was murdered on his birthday.

The three subjects were charged with first-degree murder, arraigned and held without bail. Santiago was already in custody for a previous motor vehicle charge stemming from this investigation.

"I commend the members of the Providence Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit for their diligent work throughout this investigation, which ultimately led to the apprehension of the three individuals responsible for this senseless murder," said Colonel Perez. "Our officers will continue working tirelessly to remove violent criminals from the streets of our City. Thank you to Sgt. John Primiano, Det. Mitch Guerra, and Det. Harrison Northup for leading this investigation."

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Darmani Balbuena, who was taken from us too soon on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the tender age of 18. He brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives with his kind heart, radiant smile, and boundless curiosity. Words can't describe the pain left behind from his unjust swift departure. His smile will forever stay in our memories.

Darmani leaves behind his loving mother, Darisa, his brother Darling, and sister Darielis, as well as his loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Darmani was one to always smile and lend a hand. He was a good son, grandson, and friend to those who had the blessing to know him.
