Citing Safety Concerns, Warwick Schools Will Let Out Early Monday Due to Eclipse

On Tuesday, Superintendent Lynn Dambruch shared the following message:
"Dear Parents/Guardians,
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTAs you may already be aware, Monday April 8, 2024 will be a historical day in North America, as there will be a full solar eclipse visible in our area. This has not occurred since 2017 and prior to that was 1979,
As a result, most school departments across the state are developing plans to help ensure the safety of students. Our Warwick Administration Team has reviewed the information in regards to this event.
Due to the changes in lighting conditions caused by the eclipse, as well as potential eye safety risk, we will be releasing students in all schools two hours prior to their usual scheduled release time on Monday, April 8, 2024. In taking this precaution, we are ensuring that students remain safe during dismissal. This will count as a school day and lunch will be provided to the students.
Additionally, all after school activities and athletics events scheduled for that day will begin after the conclusion of the eclipse (approximately 4:38 PM). Please look for specific start times on the schedules for the various events."
