Forbes' Siedle Hits Goal with KickStarter to Audit RI Pension System

Ted Siedle, the Forbes Columnist and former SEC investigator, has reached his $20,000 crowdfunding goal to conduct a second investigation into the RI pension system.

To date he has realized 340 backers who have pledged $20,329. The campaign ends today.

“I'll be starting by requesting information in the coming weeks," Siedle told GoLocalProv.  "I'll have more to say on the time frame as it moves forward."

In October of 2013, Siedle released a 100 page report commissioned by the AFSCME union. The report entitled, "Rhode Island Public Pension Reform: Wall Street's License to Steal" charged that the investment strategy led by Rhode Island’s then-General Treasurer Gina Raimondo (D), is a "lose-lose: alternative investments both reduce returns and increase risk."

Siedle has worked for states, counties and unions investigating pension abuses and investment issues, and is currently working on several investigations.

“Our mission is to provide stakeholders in the nation’s retirement plans with an independent, expert review which can be used to improve the structure, investments and performance of these plans," said Siedle in his appeal. "As crowd-funding of retirement plan investigations sweeps the nation, greater transparency, lower cost and better performance will be our goal."
