Former Providence Police Chief Dean Esserman has reported to Providence Police that the rims and tires were stolen off his car when his car was parked on Wayland Avenue on Providence's East Side.

The incident reported took place on Thursday.

Esserman was forced to resign as police chief of Providence in 2011 after a GoLocal report unveiled that he hosted a graduation party for his high school-aged daughter and allowed guests to drink and smoke marijuana in his home.

Initially, Esserman called the GoLocal report false, and then GoLocal unveiled the Facebook message Esserman’s then-underage daughter had posted to Facebook.

In a Facebook message sent two days before the party, Esserman’s daughter told other high school students on the invite list to bring their own drinks and marijuana, and promised drinking games that would be taking place both inside and outside the house.

“The party starts at noon, but that is mostly family and my parent’s friends,” the message reads. “Everyone can start to come through around 730/8. Bring whoever, just let me know. Bring your own drinks and bud (slang for marijuana) for the night, and there will be plenty of food if you want to eat. Cops won’t bother us so we don’t need to worry about that. Not like my last party, I'm flying to XXXXX the next day. Bon fire, pong (inside and out). I’ll also have the Bruins game on”

Esserman was forced to resign as Providence Police Chief days later.

Hugh Clements was named to replace Esserman.

Letter by Yale professor
Forced to Resign in New Haven

Esserman went on to serve as the police chief in New Haven, Connecticut, but there, too, he was forced to resign after a series of public outbursts.

GoLocal reported:

Dean Esserman, former Providence Police Chief and present New Haven Police Chief, threatened to “shut down the whole (Army-Yale football) game” after an usher had asked Esserman for a ticket and a supervisor had refused to “remove” the usher from the Yale Bowl.

The Army-Yale football game incident came to light after a Yale Assistant Professor Dan Weinberger wrote a letter unveiling the verbal abuse by Esserman.

In the letter Weinberger outlined the incident and the threat by Esserman.

Then, there were reports that publicly berated a waitress. That story was reported by Fox 61.

By September of 2016, Esserman had resigned as Chief in New Haven.

He went on to work at Quinnipiac University.

And served as a consultant to the then-Mayor of Central Falls, James Diossa. Today, Diossa is Rhode Island’s General Treasurer.
