Guest Mindsetter™ Heller: Being Catholic Means Accepting All Teachings of the Church

The Catholic Church considers marriage as both a sacrament (a visible sign of the grace that God gives), created by God ["The LORD God then built the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman." (Gen:2:22), "a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh" (Gen. 2:24)] and a public institution.

The position of sacrament raises the level of reverence afforded marriage and therefore any attack on the sacrament must be defended.  Since Gay Marriage is contrary to the natural law of propagation which precludes the creation of life, this is by nature a non-genuine, non-effective, and non-complementary relationship.  Hence, it is inconsistent for anyone in a Gay Marriage to ask for or expect a forbearance on the Catholic Church's position - which is against Gay Marriages.

By virtue of Mr. Templeton's public position within the Catholic Church, they had no choice but to ask for his resignation or removal because of his Gay Marriage, not his being Gay.  The Catholic Church is opposed to Gay Marriage for the reasons stated above and not Mr. Templeton, as the Catholic Church teaches that all people are to be treated with a God given dignity and respect.  This distinction between a person's actions (Gay Marriage) and the person, needs to be emphasized, as all too often Catholics and non-Catholics alike are confused by this Catholic Church teaching.

Lastly, being a Catholic means you accept all of the teachings of the Catholic Church, on Faith and Morals, and not just the ones you like.  Therefore, the real challenge is not facing the Catholic Church, rather, those that need to investigate with a conscientious, and prayer-filled consideration on why they are having difficulties with one or more teachings.

Deacons, Pastors, Priests, and even Bishops are more than available to have these types of discussions.
