Councilman Hassett to Address Property Issues in Providence Neighborhood
“Neighbors brought a number of complaints to me recently about the unacceptable conditions at certain properties in my ward,” explained Hassett. “It is the role of the City to record violations, fine the offending owners, and compel them to completely correct the conditions in accordance with the law. This is a serious quality of life issue that needs to be taken head-on.”
Hassett went on to highlight certain issues such as extensive trash and debris, code violations, and preserving the quality of housing in Providence through the City’s governmental action.

Through those experiences, it is clear to Hassett that the problems are not isolated to Smith Hill and prioritized action is required.
“These issues are not isolated to Smith Hill,” said Hassett. “Every neighborhood in Providence was affected by the foreclosure crisis and the recession that followed, so the City needs to be active and aggressive when it comes to enforcing code violations and citing the owners of problem properties wherever they are.
Alma, Inkerman, and Pekin Streets will be addressed first, followed by a second phase focused on Frederick, Osborne, Richter, and Ruggles Streets.
