LIVE ELECTION UPDATE Gay marriage group working the polls 1:20 PM

Marriage Equality Rhode Island has dispatched more than 90 volunteers to polling stations across the state to speak with voters about the issue of marriage equality.

A spokeswoman for MERI said the volunteers will be asking voters to sign postcards in support of marriage equality to send to their legislators. Volunteers are scheduled to spend 180 hours speaking with voters. Locations this afternoon and evening include: the Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library in Burrillville, Oxford Place Apartments in Providence, and West Kingston Elementary School in West Kingston.

MERI says it will push for legislation legalizing same-sex marriage after today’s election.
