Man Charged With Kidnapping Mother and Daughter in Providence

As GoLocal previously reported, Brian Medina, age 27, was arrested last Friday after he flipped the Mercedes SUV he was driving on Route 10 fleeing from police — and then fled on foot into the adjacent neighborhood.
GoLocal has learned that Medina is now facing kidnapping charges, after he broke into a residence — with the mother and child inside.

About Incident
Officers on patrol last Friday said they saw the heavily tinted black Mercedes driven by Medina speeding in Silver Lake shortly after 1 PM, which they said proceeded to drive faster to try and evade the officers.
After the vehicle flipped over on Route 10, Medina and a passenger fled the vehicle, with the passenger being apprehended near the scene.
Medina had escaped to the adjacent West End neighborhood, and police searched the area, ultimately locating him after he broke into a residence near the Huntington Expressway — with the mother and child inside.
According to police, a neighbor alerted them to seeing a man trying to break into houses on the street, and was unable to get in contact with the residents of the apartment she was afraid Medina entered.
When police forced entry and apprehended Medina, they say the victims were in a highly emotional state, and said he forbade them from answering the door or their phones.
Now, Medina is facing multiple charges of “breaking and entering of a dwelling when residents on premises;” kidnapping, robbery, and gun charges.
Records show that Medina -- who has multiple prior arrests including domestic violence and unlawful breaking and entering charges — had bail set at $30,000 surety.
A pre-arraignment conference is scheduled for March.
