About Incident

Shortly after 9 PM on Friday night, police in the area of Broadway said they were on the lookout for Hyundai and Kia vehicles, due to a recent increase in thefts.

Police said they ran a license plate check on a Grey Hyundai Sonata operating on Broadway, which came up as having been reported stolen.

When police said they attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle sped off, and was located again on Atwells Avenue driving toward DePasquale Avenue where it was stopped in traffic.

Police say they attempted to block the vehicle in with cruisers, at which time the operator — later determined to be a 15-year-old juvenile  — first reversed, crashing into one police cruiser, then forward, crashing into another police cruiser — and a parked car — before driving off.

According to police, the driver fled toward Federal Street and exited the vehicle while it was in motion, which eventually crashed into another parked car and came to rest against a fence.

Police said the juvenile was located a short time later in the area and taken to Central Station; the stolen vehicle was recovered by police.
