Man Robbed, Assaulted in Botched Facebook Marketplace Sale in Providence

A man says he was assaulted and robbed of thousands of dollars when he believed he was buying a used car in Providence on Sunday. 

According to the victim, he arranged what he thought was the purchase of the vehicle with sellers on Facebook Marketplace.

About Incident 

Shortly after 6 PM on Sunday, police respond to a report of a robbery and assault in Providence. 

The victim said he had gone to a pre-arranged meeting spot off Sackett Street in the Elmwood section of the city to purchase the vehicle a short while earlier. 

He said was accompanied by two friends, and that they met two individuals with the vehicle that he was looking to purchase. 

According to the victim, one of the unknown men pulled out gun and demanded money and jewelry from the victim and his friends. 

The suspect with the gun reportedly threatened to shoot the victim and then hit him in the head with his gun before robbing the victims and fleeing the scene with the other suspect. 

The victim hit with the gun suffered a laceration to his head. 

Detectives are currently investigating.
