Man Stabbed in Robbery in Downtown Providence

A man was stabbed in an attempted robbery in downtown Providence overnight. 

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for his injuries.

Shortly after 3 AM Saturday morning, police were called to 2 Regency Plaza for a report of a stabbing. 

The victim - a male in his 30s — said he was at the corner of Westminster Street and Matthewson Street, when two men approached him asking for money. 

The victim said that one of the suspects then grabbed a bag he was carrying, and when he tried to defend himself, he was stabbed in his stomach, and the suspects took off with his belongings.

Police said puncture wounds could be seen on the victim; he was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
