According to a statement from J.R. Ventura, Chief of Information and Public Relations, the Medium Security Facility is the only one on lockdown.
Rhode Island currently has 33 cases of coronavirus, as of Wednesday.
“We have initiated our safety protocol at our Medium Security Facility. Today three inmates presented with flu-like symptoms. Because of the heightened state of awareness regarding the COVID-19 crisis, we are taking every precaution to keep our population safe. We are testing these inmates for COVID-19, and we have placed them in isolated medical housing until we have these test results back. We are locking down the Medium Security facility in the meantime as a result of this development and will be taking extra precautions to clean and sanitize the facility. This is the only RIDOC facility in lockdown. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our staff and inmate population.”
