An Assistant Rhode Island Attorney General was assaulted in downtown Providence on Monday, GoLocal has learned.

The incident occurred in the area of Westminster Street and Dorrance Street.

The victim — a female — was reportedly attacked and pushed to the ground by a male assailant shortly after 9 AM.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Providence Detectives Major David Lapatin said that police have a suspect in custody.
