NEW: Irish Prime Minister Kenny to Visit RI Sept. 24

Ireland's Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, to visit RI.
Governor Lincoln Chafee announced Thursday that Rhode Island will host Ireland’s prime minister, Taoiseach Enda Kenny on Wednesday, September 24.

Kenny, along with other Irish officials, will attend a reception at the State House and visit the Rhode Island Irish Famine Memorial in Providence.

Chafee met with the Taoiseach in Ireland on May while leading a trade mission to further develop the state’s relationship and growth opportunities for businesses.

"We continue to find ways to strengthen our role in global economic discussions,” said Chafee. “Recent economic indicators show that we are off to our best start in 30 years and companies want to do business in Rhode Island. We must look beyond our borders to the international community to remain competitive with our neighboring states.”
