CRANSTON --- A Pawtucket man was killed yesterday while trying to change his tire on Route 95 southbound near Route 10 when he was sideswiped by another car.
James W. Skipper of Potter Street, Pawtucket, was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital shortly after the accident. He would have been 42 today.

Charged with driving to endanger, death resulting, was Alan Fung of Hollyhock Drive, Cranston, said state police Capt. John T. Leyden.

Leyden said the accident occurred at about 9 a.m. as Skipper bent down to change the left front tire on his 1981 Pontiac. Skipper was hurled 96 feet from the car.

"(Fung) just went along the whole left side of the car," Leyden said.

Leyden said Fung told police he had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Traffic on Route 95 was delayed for a short while, Leyden said, but at least three lanes remained open.
