Providence police are investigating what they say was a serious stabbing in the city early Saturday morning.

Shortly after 4 a.m on Saturday, police responded to the 400 block of Charles Street for a report of a stabbing.

Police found a male victim severely stabbed in the leg.

The man told police he was stabbed by a female in a dispute over money.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police are currently investigating.
