NEW: Providence Police Investigating Deadly Shooting - 6th Homicide in 6 Weeks

Providence Police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place on Saturday in the city.

According to police, the incident took place around 10:40 PM Saturday night. 

“A 21-year-old male was sitting in a car on Massachussetts Avenue when a car drove by and fired at the car — striking him,” said Providence Police Major David Lapatin.

“He was driven in that car to Rhode Island Hospital,” said Lapatin. “He passed away early Sunday afternoon.”

Police are not releasing the victim’s name at this time. There are presently no suspects identified.

Providence Police have released details of a fatal shooting in Providence Saturday night, followed by a suspicious death in Roger Williams Park on Monday -- and a shooting off of Westminster by Broadway on Monday night.

Lapatin briefed media on the three incidents. Following the press conference, police confirmed the suspicious death has now been ruled a homicide.
