NEW: Raimondo Fires Betsy Wall For Tourism Campaign Debacle

Betsy Wall
The first casualty of the Rhode Island tourism debacle has been reported - Betsy Wall, the Chief Marketing Officer for Rhode Island, has been fired.

Governor Gina Raimondo at a press conference on Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. announced that she "accepted Wall's resignation."

The politically connected Wall came to RI in December following posts in Washington DC and Massachusetts - two months after the state had already selected the vendors for the campaign.

The move comes following a tumultuous week for Governor Gina Raimondo, after the new state tourism logo was released Monday to overwhelmingly poor reviews, and the new tourism video was released - and pulled - on Tuesday because it contained stock footage of Iceland.

More than 100 factual errors were discovered on the state's tourism website, and the head of the Westerly Chamber of Commerce appealed to Wall and Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor to replace the Iceland footage with anything from one of the state's top beach and vacation destinations.
