Raptakis Calls on Coventry Town Council to Investigate Conditions at Harris Mill Lofts

Senator Leonidas Raptakis is calling for the Coventry Town Council to examine conditions of the controversial Harris Mill Lofts and developer Brady Sullivan.

“The potentially dangerous conditions of the Harris Mill Lofts and the lack of any corrective action on the part of the developer, Brady Sullivan, has been extensively detailed in the media, and the residents of this deficient facility deserve to live in a building that does not impose danger to their well-being and health.  And due to the widespread knowledge of these problems, I found it particularly disingenuous that Council President Shibley claimed that no formal complaints have been made against Brady Sullivan, especially since I have enclosed numerous such complaints that date back several years,” said Senator Raptakis.

Raptakis is asking the Coventry Town Council to examine the issue at the upcoming meeting that will be held on May 14.

Issues at Harris Mill

As GoLocalProv reported in March, the number of tenants with allegations of exposure to "mold and other pathogens" from living at developer Brady Sullivan’s mill buildings in Rhode Island is growing exponentially.

Now, there are more than 100 former and present tenants of the mill loft apartment properties.

“If this was another industry there would be a recall for the safety of the consumer. If [Brady Sullivan] were a conscientious and honorable company they would engage in good faith discussions with us to see how they can help these folks who have been injured and try to prevent this from ever happening again,” said Artin Coloian, one of the two attorneys representing the growing number of Brady Sullivan residents making allegations.

GoLocal first reported on the allegations and litigation tied to contamination on January 20.

Raptakis added, “The residents of the Harris Mill Lofts deserve to have their very serious concerns addressed and taken seriously. They are all members of the Coventry community and the Town Council has a duty to protect their quality of life from an unscrupulous developer. I hope and expect the council to do their duly-elected jobs and address this issue at the next council meeting."
