Rhode Island State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on 95

The Rhode Island State Police (RISP) are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the state on Wednesday.

According to RISP, shortly after 2 PM, State Troopers from the Hope Valley Barracks responded to a two-car crash on Route 95 North in Richmond.

RISP said that a preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling north in the right lane was rear-ended by another vehicle traveling at high speed.

Both vehicles veered off the roadway and overturned into the woodline, said RISP.

 

Victims of Crash

RISP said that the driver and passenger of the first vehicle sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. 

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, said RISP.

The passenger of the second was taken to Kent County Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. 

A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene but ultimately not used; the northbound lanes were temporarily closed for about 30 minutes to accommodate the helicopter, and traffic was rerouted onto Route 138, said RISP.
