RI Leaders Blast Trump for Ending DACA

"I am here today to announce that the program known as DACA that was effectuated under the Obama administration is being rescinded," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday at the Justice Department.
Keith Oliveira with the Rhode Island League of Charter Schools was one of the leaders who spoke out on Tuesday.

The Administration is ordering a phased-out dismantling of the program, giving Congress six months to decide whether or not to take action. Currently, DACA allows children who entered the country illegally, with the number cited at over 800,000, to have certain protections.

On Tuesday, the Rhode Island Democratic Party held a "RI Stands with DACA" event at the Segue Institute in Central Falls.
The Coalition of Advocates for Student Opportunities is holding an event on Friday at the Rhode Island State House from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.
