New: Block Calls on Fung to Explain Immigration Freedom Ride Support

"Immigration has been an important issue this year, with a flood of illegal immigrants pouring over the border and the state being pushed to accept undocumented children," said the Block campaign in a release. When Fung was a member of the Cranston City Council, he supported a resolution backing the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride. To hear Fung tell it, the vote was in support of an event meant to support “meaningful immigration reform” and the Ride had bipartisan support. But in reality, the event was organized by labor unions and groups including the Socialist Workers and the American Communist Party and its aim was to support amnesty for all illegal immigrants in this country."
Campaign Speaks Out
“Allan Fung can’t say he didn’t support amnesty because that is what the immigration Freedom Ride event was all about,” said Block campaign manager Jeff Britt. “He wants us to believe that because the word amnesty wasn’t in the resolution he voted for, everything is OK, but if you look at who put the event together and their purpose, Fung had to know he was supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants.”

Britt said that while Block and Fung "agree on many aspects of the immigration debate—such as the need to have voter identification to prevent non-citizens from voting, implementation of e-verify and denying driver’s licenses to those who are here illegally— Block absolutely disagrees with Fung’s past support for amnesty for illegal immigrants."
