NEW: RIPTA Driver Punched, Providence Police Seek Suspect

A RIPTA bus driver was punched in the face last week -- and Providence Police are looking for the suspect.

The Office of the Public Safety Commissioner issued the following statement on Wednesday afternoon.

"The attached photos are of a suspect who punched a RIPTA bus driver in the face on May 6 at 7:00 a.m. as he exited the bus on Broad at Ontario Streets in Providence. 

The suspect is described as male in his 20’s, possibly Hispanic, about 5’7” in height. After striking the driver in the face he fled the scene in an unknown direction. 

Anyone with information is asked to call Providence Police Detective Lieutenant Michael Figueiredo at (401) 243-6376."
