Two Men Arrested for Alleged Newport Sexual Assault

Newport Police announced on Wednesday the arrests of 24-year-old Juan Carlos Montepeque-Albizures and 33-year-old Alvaro Gomez-Alvarez in connection with a reported sexual assault that took place on November 18, 2024. 

The incident involved a 27-year-old male victim, who reported being assaulted by two male suspects at a residence in Newport, said police.

About Investigation 

Following an investigation, the Newport Police Criminal Investigative Division said they identified Montepeque-Albizures as one of the suspects involved in the crime; he arrested at his residence located at 124 Broadway.

He has been charged with First Degree Sexual Assault and Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault.

Detectives said they also identified Gomez-Alvarez as the second suspect. He was also arrested at his place of employment and charged with First Degree Sexual Assault and Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault.

 

Charging, Information Sought

According to Newport Police, after being transported to the police station, Montepeque-Albizures and Gomez-Alvarez were interviewed, booked, and processed. 

They were both arraigned in Newport District Court and held without bail at the ACI in Cranston.
