According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 10:30 PM.
Police say the victim was a 52-year-old local resident, who was hit while crossing in a designated crosswalk on Broadway at Bedlow Avenue.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 56-year-old local resident, say police.
The Newport Fire Department responded to the scene and the victim was transported directly from the scene to Rhode Island Hospital.
Police said despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Rhode Island Hospital. The Newport Police Department is actively attempting to notify the next of kin.
According to police, it is now an active investigation; at this time no criminal charges have been filed against the operator, who was cited for Right of Way in Crosswalk (first offense) and Operating without Evidence of Insurance.
Police are urging any witnesses who have not given a statement regarding the accident or anyone with additional information to contact the Newport Police Department at 401-847-1306.
