New Footage Appears to Show Barrington Woman Reaching for Police Officers' Guns During Newport Melee

A new enlarged video clip appears to show that one of the women involved in the weekend melee with Newport Police repeatedly tried to reach for police officers' guns while they were trying to pull another man involved in the incident off of a police officer.

The new video was taken by a video camera of Bowen's Wharf.

The video secured by GoLocal shows Rachael Onik, a Barrington woman, reaching repeatedly at the belt and gun area of Newport Police Officer Alex White and then reaching for the gun of Officer Jaisen Cole.

Cole turned and threw a punch in the direction of the person (Onik) and hit her, knocking her unconscious.

Police Officer Jaisen Cole’s statement was as follows:

Officer White and I picked Nash up off the ground, and before I could place him in handcuffs, I could feel somebody grabbing and pulling on my firearm.

Due to the concern for my safety, I turned around and threw a punch with my left hand, which connected with Rachel's [sic] right jaw, who was actively trying to grab for my firearm. Rachel came to, and I advised dispatch to request NFD.
