NEW: Whale Washes Up on Roy Carpenter's Beach

A whale washed up on Roy Carpenter's Beach in Matunuck overnight, and the Rhode Island DEM was on the scene Monday morning. 

"Our first guest on the beach this season. This whale washed up overnight," worte Paul Ainsworth in a comment on his Facebook page, "Roy Carpenter's Beach Unofficial."

Ainsworth told GoLocal he took the pictures when he encountered the whale on a walk Monday morning. 

"I've never seen a whale washed up here, and I've been here all my life," said Ainsworth. 

Ainsworth said that state officials were on the beach Monday morning determining what to do with the body. 

Latest Beached Whale

Last week, a humpback whale washed up against the rocks on Newport's Hazard's Beach.

On March 16, another humpback whale washed up on a Block Island's Crescent Beach.
