This visit marks President Obama’s first trip to Rhode Island since 2010.  First Lady Michelle Obama visited the Ocean State on June 2nd to take part in a keel-laying ceremony for the future submarine USS Illinois at Electric Boat at Quonset Point.

President Barack Obama had an approval rating of 43.0 percent among likely Rhode Island voters surveyed in the most recent statewide public opinion poll conducted by the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University in April 2014, while a plurality (46.6%) disapproved of the way the President is handling the economy.   The statewide poll also found that an overwhelming majority of Rhode Island voters had a pessimistic view of the economy in the Ocean State -- 92% of respondents said the local economy in Rhode Island is "not so good" or "poor" -- and two-thirds (62.5%) of voters said that generally speaking, things in Rhode Island are off on the wrong track.

The President is scheduled to board Air Force One at Westchester County Airport at 5:00 PM for the trip to Rhode Island, and is expected to return to Westchester immediately following the fundraiser so he can attend the wedding of his personal chef at a Pocantico Hills, NY restaurant on Saturday.  The Federal Aviation Administration has issued temporary flight restrictions over Providence and Newport for the duration of the President's visit.
