One Arrested Following Fight on Federal Hill and JWU Student Assaulted in Providence

In a separate incident, a Johnson and Wales University (JWU) student was assaulted — and knocked unconscious — in a brawl at an off-campus party early Sunday morning.

Federal Hill Fight
Police responded to the intersection of Spruce and McAvoy Streets off of Atwells Avenue shortly after 2 AM Sunday morning for a report of a public disturbance.
According to police, officers encountered multiple people suffering from injuries.
One of the victims had reportedly been videotaping a fight taking place outside Club Afrique on Spruce Street, when he was assaulted by a suspect who put him in a chokehold and punched and kicked him.
The victim and witnesses were able to identify the assailant as Koran Thompson Soares, age 22, who was handcuffed at the scene and transported to Central Station.
Soares faces one count of simple assault
College Student Assaulted
Shortly after 3 AM Sunday morning, police responded to Rhode Island Hospital to meet with a victim of assault.
The victim — a twenty-year-old JWU student — told police he had been partying on a balcony of a triple-decker on Oakland Avenue shortly after 1 AM Sunday, when a group of individuals on the street began shouting at the partygoers.
The victim told police he and his friends went down to the street to confront the individuals, at which time the victim said he stepped in between the two groups.
According to the victim and witnesses, he was punched multiple times in the face and knocked to the ground; he told police he lost consciousness.
Police said the victim had swelling to his face and blood on his knees.
Detectives are currently investigating.
