The North Providence Police Department announced on Friday that on Thursday March 16 at approximately 2:00 PM, a North Providence High School police resource officer was notified by a student that another student may have a firearm in his possession on school grounds.

The student was identified as a fourteen-year-old male. According to police, the assistant principal and school resource officer located the student as school was dismissing.  He was then asked if there was anything in his backpack or locker that he should not have in his possession.

The student advised that there was a black BB gun in the front pocket of his backpack.  The gun was removed and observed to be a black Glock 19 6MM BB gun. He was placed into custody without incident, and taken to police headquarters.  There was no mention of threats made by the student.
