On Monday July 11 at approximately 3:40 PM, officers responded to Shaw’s Market on Smithfield Road and took into custody Todd Belovitch, age 61, of Douglas Pike in Smithfield.

Police say the arrest is the result of a stabbing that occurred in the parking lot of Shaw’s on June 24.

On that date, a verbal altercation reportedly took place with the victim, a man in his late 50s from North Providence.

The altercation then turned physical and Belovitch pulled a box cutter out of his pocket and sliced the victim in the abdomen.

Police are considering this an isolated incident, and say there is no danger to the public.

Charges

Belovitch is being charged with the following criminal offenses:

Felony Assault

Belovitch will appear before the District Court of the State of RI, Kent County Courthouse on August 9, 2022 where he will appear before a judge for additional court proceedings.
