Providence College Names Van Reet Director of Center for Engaged Learning

Providence College has named Dr. Jennifer Van Reet as Director of the Center for Engaged Learning (CEL).

The CEL was founded in 2013 to promote, enhance, and expand the College’s efforts to engage students deeply in their learning; it was formed to re-imagine academic advising as a more engaging process for students.

Van Reet has been a faculty member in the psychology department since 2008, after receiving her Ph.D. in developmental psychology from the University of Virginia.

She maintains an active research laboratory that investigates how children and adults are able to conceptualize objects and entities that are not real, and what role this ability has in learning.

Van Reet supervises a team of undergraduate research assistants each semester, and has mentored 16 student research projects funded through the Undergraduate Research Grant program.

She has been a member of PC’s Undergraduate Research Committee since 2009 and its chair since 2014.
