VIDEO: Providence Student Murdered Outside High School UPDATED

A Providence student was murdered on Wednesday outside of the Providence Career and Technical Academy. The victim is a 15-year-old Central High School student.

Emergency response personnel were seen hosing down the blood of the sidewalk in front of the school's sign.

Mayor Jorge Elorza was on the scene of the killing. He left before Chief Hugh Clements briefed the media.

Clements, Providence Police Chief tells GoLocal that the next of kin have not been “fully notified.”

A second young man was shot on Sprague Street. The two shootings are believed to be linked.

One person of interest is in custody.

No weapon has been recovered.

The afternoon shooting near Fricker Street sent police en masse to the area and students from the three nearby high schools home early for the day.

The three high schools near the shooting are Central and Classical High Schools and the Providence Career and Technical Academy. According to police sources, the shooting victim was a sophomore.

The shooting is a black mark on the opening on the 2018-2019 school year.
