RI General Assembly Opens on Tuesday, January 6

The 2015-16 session the the Rhode Island General Assembly is set to open on Tuesday, January 6 when the 75 members of the House of Representatives and 38 members of the Senate will be sworn into office. 

This year's assembly consists of 15 new Representatives and three new Senators with a total of 63 Democrats, 11 Republicans and one independent in the house of representatives. Meanwhile, the Senate will consist of 32 Democrats, five republicans and one independent. 

Rhode Island's newly-inaugurated Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea will give the oath of office in separate ceremonies in the two legislative chambers.

The opening-day session for both the Senate and he House of Representatives will begin a 4 p.m. and like with all General Assembly sessions, the media and the public are invited to attend.
