RI’s Top High Schools in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 Rankings

In Rhode Island, Providence’s Classical High School earned top honors in the rankings. In addition, it cracked the U.S. top 100 list, coming in at #91.

About Rankings
According to U.S. News & World Report, “The methodology focuses on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates.”
“College readiness specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, and underserved student performance focuses on students who are Black, Hispanic, or from low-income households,” they add. “For the first time, science proficiency and performance was also incorporated into the methodology for states where science assessment data was available.”
U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 17,800 schools at the national, state and local level.
Overall, according to their analysis, the top performing high school in the U.S. is Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (VA), followed by Academic Magnet High School (SC) and Signature School (IN).
In RI, the ranking looked at 47 districts and 62 high schools; overall, there are 3,416 full time teachers and 44,524 students enrolled.
