Senate Education Committee Releases Education Report

Senate Education Committee released its Education Report
The Senate Education Committee released its Education Report.

The report titled, “A 21st Century Education for a 21st Century Workforce,” includes multiple several recommendations to improve education.

“I am excited about this report and its findings. These recommendations will lead to important legislation that will help Rhode Island build a workforce that is commensurate with the needs of the 21st century. I thank Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio for his support of this initiative and I look forward to working with my colleagues to turn those recommendations into public policy,” said Senator Hanna Gallo, chairwoman of the committee.

The report was unveiled by the Senate Education Committee at its annual Education Summit.

Recommendations

The recommendations contained in the report include improving student performance to increase and support the needs of the workforce, improving access to world language acquisition opportunities, modifying high school graduation requirements, re-examining postsecondary education opportunities for foster youth, and improving access to quality adult education and workforce training that leads seamlessly to employment.

According to the press release, several senators have already planned legislation for the upcoming session that begins on January 1.

They include, Senators Frank A. Ciccone III (D-Dist. 7, Providence, North Providence), Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) and Ana B. Quezada (D-Dist. 2, Providence) are working on legislation that would create dual language immersion programs.
