"Smart Health" to Feature Vascular Surgeon and Brown Alpert Medical School Professor Moreira at 4

Moreira, who is a graduate of the Alpert Medical School, is an active member in the local Cape Verdean community, and will be taking part in the Cape Verdean health fair this coming Saturday in Pawtucket.
Dr. Moreira is fluent in several languages including Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish, and will talk about the importance of working with patient populations that can sometimes run into language barriers when discussing health issues, and how resources are available to provide information and referrals.

Dr. Moreira is a vascular and endovascular surgeon who specializes in treating all forms of vascular disease including carotid artery stenosis, peripheral arterial disease, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, and venous insufficiency. Her research interests include identifying and addressing health disparities and the impact of social determinants on outcomes of patients with atherosclerotic disease.
She is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Providence VA Medical Center. She’s also the Diversity Officer for the Department of Surgery and sits on many regional and academic committees with special focus on improving resident education, research efforts, and inclusiveness in medicine and biology. Dr. Moreira is also a surgeon at University Surgical Associates, which will become Brown Surgical Associates in January.
Dr. Moreira received her B.A. in Biology and Chemistry in 2003 from Rhode Island College and her M.D. in 2008 from Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Providence, RI. She completed her residency in General Surgery at the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, in 2013 followed by a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Boston Medical Center, Boston, MA, in 2015.
