Smithfield Superintendent on Leave During Investigation of Antisemitism

The law firm hired by the Smithfield School Committee issues a statement under School Committee Chair Richard Iannitelli’s name stating:

 

Superintendent Dawn Bartz is on administrative leave pending the outcome of a legal review regarding the administration’s recent handling of a football matter.  Assistant Superintendent Lisa Odom‑Villella has agreed to serve as Acting Superintendent of Schools.  These steps ensure continued stability and focus on the needs of our students, staff, and families. Chair Iannitelli stated that the Committee will not be commenting further at this time.

The law firm that issued the statement was Brennan Scungio & Kresge LLP. She is being paid while on leave.

 

This is just the latest in the controversy involving five football players allegedly assaulting a Jewish student and spraying him with a chemical to reenact a Holocaust gas chamber.

 

Currently, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha has stated that his office has opened a civil investigation.
