Son of Former Woonsocket Mayor Baldelli-Hunt Arrested by MA State Police - For Stealing Casino Chips

Baldelli-Hunt resigned from office in 2023 and this week, the Woonsocket City Council voted unanimously to forward an independent report about a secret land deal involving Baldelli-Hunt to law enforcement for possible investigation.
According to Massachusetts State Police, shortly after 6 PM on Tuesday, Encore Boston Harbor’s Security Control Center advised the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit (GEU) that a patron stole a large quantity of chips from a table game and fled the property.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTA responding GEU Sergeant and an Everett Police Detective spoke with witnesses who said they saw the suspect -- later identified as Gary Hunt, age 35 -- sitting at the table (though not playing the table game) and getting up several times to use his mobile telephone.
According to police, "The last time [Hunt] returned to the table, [he] informed those around him that another nearby patron won a large sum of money. After distracting the other patrons and staff, [Hunt] reached over the table, secured thirteen (13) orange $1,000 chips from the dealer’s tray, immediately ran off the casino floor, and used an emergency exit to leave the property."
Hunt had been a star high school athlete at Bishop Hendricken.
Making Arrest
The GEU Sergeant and Everett Police Detective said they relayed the suspect’s description to the State Police, who broadcast the information to area law enforcement.
State Police and Everett Police conducted a search and located a man matching the description in a parking lot near Encore Boston Harbor; law enforcement detained the man and identified him as Hunt, 35.
During a search, officials said they found Hunt in possession of several orange $1,000 chips.
Officials also located three (3) additional orange $1,000 chips using security video. Hunt was seen dropping one chip while leaving the property and discarding two (2) from his sneaker once outside. State Police and Everett Police Canines conducted an article search of the area and found no additional items.
State Police transported Hunt to the Medford Barracks for booking. He was charged with two offenses:
M.G.L. 266 § 30: Larceny over $1200
M.G.L. 266 § 30: Larceny from a building
