The Incident

Montey’s arrest comes from a crash that occurred at approximately 3:05 a.m. on Route 4, near the intersection with the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.

The investigation showed that Montey was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty north on Route 4 when she lost control of the car, veered across two lanes of traffic, and struck a tree in the high-speed median.

Two passengers, Emma Brown, age 21, 17 Bethany Road, Wakefield, and Lorenzo Smith, age 33, 576 Fort Road, South Kingstown, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Montey and a third passenger in the car, Chanon Johnson, 32, of 57 Mockingbird Drive, Exeter, were taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital, where they were treated and later released.

As a result of an investigation by troopers from the State Police Wickford Barracks and the Collision Reconstruction Unit, a warrant was issued for Montey’s arrest. She surrendered to troopers at the Wickford Barracks Thursday night.

The investigation showed that her blood-alcohol level was .210, nearly three times the legal limit of .08, at the time of the crash.
