Upon arrival, police were told the suspect could still be inside the residence — and that he was also in possession of a gun.

Police said that they were able to reach the victim — a male in his 20s — as well as other residents, and escort them out.

SWAT team members searched the building, but did not locate a suspect; police say blood was seen on the staircase leading to an apartment.

The victim, who was stabbed in multiple locations, was taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital with what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.
